Do you have to pay VAT?

In Poland, Value Added Tax (VAT) is compulsory for most entrepreneurs, including companies that produce and sell goods and services, as well as importers of goods.

In particular, the obligation to register as a VAT payer arises for entrepreneurs who:

  • Exceed an annual turnover of «total sales value» (sales of goods and services) of PLN 200,000 (if the turnover is less than PLN 200,000, one can register as a VAT taxpayer freely);
  • Carry out international trade;
  • Provide services in the EU or export goods outside the EU;
  • Have a VAT registration in another EU country and transact goods or services in Poland.

There are also some exceptions and peculiarities that may affect the need to register as a VAT taxpayer.
